10,000 dimes on 10,000 sats
After over a century in circulation, the dime has transitioned from a vital unit of currency to a token relic and coveted collector's item. A small piece of metal, a ghost of its former purchasing power.
The last silver dimes were minted in 1964, after which they have been struck in a copper-nickel clad composition. A dime from any given year will always be worth exactly 10ยข, according to the US Treasury, but the silver in pre-1964 dimes now has a metal value significantly higher than its face value.
Inspired by this discrepancy, DIMES project began by meticulously sorting through vast quantities of dimes, ultimately choosing 10,000 coins and archivally documenting their history. These 10,000 silver dimes will become immortalized on the Bitcoin blockchain, with each coin's details inscribed across 10,000 satoshis.
As the traditional silver dime fades from use and production potentially ceases, this digitally scarce set of the selected 10,000 will remain indelibly etched on the immutable Bitcoin blockchain, preserving their existence for perpetuity.
